Good morning and Happy Friday Jr. (Thursday)! I hope you all have had a great week so far. Before we get into the history of this classic look, I will share my experience of how I came to be  the owner of my very own classic trench..

Love At First Sight…

I added my staple trench coat to my wardrobe last year, and it has become one of my favorite jackets… Actually, favorite outfit. Reason being, the simplicity of the coat. I can use “basic” effort into my appearance, and still be making a fashion statement. You could honestly, wear the coat by itself and slip into a cute pair of heels, and be killing it, all while wearing 2 articles of clothing. However, I do not suggest this route, as you could easily be exposed while walking, or the wind blows. Additionally, it could be extremely uncomfortable, checking yourself at all times. It should be noted that I may or may not have gathered this information because I woke up late and in a rush…, anyways, you get what I mean. The coat is a statement piece. Moving on, I purchased my trench coat from Nordstrom and was on sale for $800, during 2017 winter sale. As a side note, this coat was a huge come up, due to the fact that I was not searching for a trench coat when I came across it. I took it off the rack with the intentions of strutting up and down in front of the mirror, working it and exuding the posh look the coat gives off.  Then, once fully satisfied embracing the coat, it would be back to the rack from which it came, and I would say “aww so cute” and go home. The problem was, I fell in love with it, and became attached, not wanting to go home without it. I went online and “Googled”  the trench coat and saw that it was at Bloomingdales online full price. I absolutely fell in love with the coat, as it was a game changer; a vital piece to complete my wardrobe, and felt the need to make it mine… I know that sounds like an unhealthy obsession, but if you know me (or if you don’t), I can’t resist a sale.

Pros And Cons Of Purchase

Pros:

• Game changer on sale… Need I say more?
• More flattering than I thought it would be. Plus it was so chic!
• A Classic Staple not yet added to my closet.

Con:

• The one con, f course was shelling out $800 for a jacket which is not my usual budget, for a single coat.

Counter Argument (with self)

•  In regards to finance, this was not just a coat, but was “The Trench Coat” by Burberry. Reason being, an iconic classic staple, that would forever be in my wardrobe and if I buy it right now, I’d be saving hundreds on a “valuable” and “sought after” “collectors item,” (to me, of course… and the multi billion dollar fashion industry, in which this theory stems).
• “Investment” rather than purchase. As an investment, I would be foolish to overlook, due to the fact, I would be losing money at some point in time because I needed this coat in my life. I seized the moment, and became the proud owner of my first trench coat!

Key learning here: If all else fails, go back to the Latin root – “Carpe Diem”. 🙂

Complicated Situation

Although, I was in some regards, a “proud owner” of this new addition to my wardrobe, I had not fully conquered it. I only found out after purchasing that “Presale” meant I was able to purchase it beforehand, but had to wait until the sale actually launched. Minor set back, unseen by my whole “carpe diem” mentality, I went home empty handed, with an E-receipt on my email. I counted down the days to pick it up in a week or so. I am not one to say “The wait was worth it,” but in this instance, I assure you it was!

Finally, Claimed The Coat!

The First day of the Presale had finally arrived, to get my hands on something I had been so anxiously awaiting! I was scheduled to work that day, but was determined to pick it up ASAP. I contemplated picking it up at 8am, but was informed, Nordstrom doesn’t open until 9am. Coincidentally, the same time my shift started. It wasn’t too much of a disappointment to me, seeing as, I am not a morning person, and to be quite frank, there is nothing that interrupts, my intermittent series of snooze alarms…even shopping. I decided to drive down to Fashion Island on my lunch break, as a reasonable option. I called ahead to inform the department of my arrival, as I was overjoyed (and on a race against time) to pick it up. As you can see, I take pride in prioritizing my life, lol.

Once I had the coat in my grasp, nicely packaged and hung in a garment bag, I couldn’t wait to put it on. I wore it back to work that day, lol. I might add, the trench coat received great feedback.

Now that we have established, how I acquired this article of clothing into my wardrobe, we can now move on to the style portion… Nevertheless, still a great success to me!

Without Further Ado, Lets Get To It!

There is so much to talk about with this versatile coat so, let’s start with the basics, and work our way through, as there is much to cover.

The Classic Trench Coat Look

• The trench coat is Burberry London’s signature look which launched the brand from inception, making it a fashion statement by itself, especially in the classic Honey color.
• The coat is a closet staple because it can be so versatile, it inherits different sides of the style spectrum from bold to elegant.
• Versatility makes it flattering to a range of different styles.
• Throughout the years, The trench coat has remained the brands most iconic piece, along with their check cashmere scarf (which is another classic staple that I have been wanting for the longest… luckily for you, that’s a rant for a different time).

How To Style A Trench Coat

• There are so many different ways to style the coat because its versatility . It could be dressed up or down very easily depending on your mood.
• My favorite way to style a trench coat is the classic look. Buttoned up, zipped and tied. I like to pop the collar, up by my neck to keep the classic bold statement look.
• For a more sexy, date night look, I keep it open with a mid length dress or skirt and a pair of killer heels. To make the Trench Coat more form fitting, I tie the belt in the back securely making sure its fitted, and frames my figure beautifully.
• For a casual look, I keep it open and tie the belt in the back loosely, just enough, to comfortably walk around if I’m on the go. straight leg jeans with a white tee and flats normally do the trick. Honestly I have worn my nikes with the trench coat as a casual look, and it still looked bomb.
