OOTD Dr. Martens

January 19, 2019

I styled my Cherry Dr. Martens with an ALL BLACK OUTFIT!…Groundbreaking, I know.

Before we get into the nitty gritty of today’s look, let me first share with you, of how this basic sweater weather look came to be. As a disclaimer, I must inform you, there was no stroke of genius in this short story… Now that we’re all excited, lets get to it!

I received my first pair of Doc Martens as a Christmas gift this year. I opened the box to see these adorable cherry red docs, and wasted no time to try them on, lace them up, and make them mine! I looked down at my shiny new shoes, and smiled with a sigh of satisfaction. They were perfect! These have been on my wishlist for a while, I couldn’t wait to add them to my shoe collection, shoving all other shoes out of the way, to make room for my new kicks (moments later, my OCD took over). I was especially excited to have receive these, just in time for the 5 days of rain we experience in Ca! After months of convincing myself of how much I needed these, due to the fact that, regardless of temperature, Fall and Winter are my favorite seasons. That being said, if I am wearing an outfit which includes outerwear or cold weather accessories to complete the look, and its 80 degrees outside, by no means, will I be removing any of the articles I’m wearing and I commit to that outfit! In search of shade, of course 😉 Thus, my convincing theory as to why I needed a pair of Docs, as they would be utilized, biweekly at the very least. At this point in time, I successfully executed, and checked Doc Martens off of my wishlist. As you would imagine, I wore them every day, looking like a badass, in these new boots….NOT! I soon realized a real dilemma, running into a most unexpected surprise.

Inadvertently, I was at a complete loss, as to how to pair my shiny new kicks with my wardrobes lack of “grunge.” Unable to spark a perfect outfit in my mind (which usually happens with most new pieces). They sat in my line up of shoes,  day after day, never the lucky ones. 🙁  After 2 weeks of letting them sit in their “special spot”, I became determined to break these bad boys out. Today was my day off, filled with busy work and errands. The weather showed cloudy skies, at 60 degrees. With no excuse to leave dressed in anything other than these impossible (to myself) boots. I thought carefully on how to style my look. In my defense, they are cherry red docs after all? I’d like to think, if they were black, I would 10 outfits lined up and it wouldn’t have been so difficult, to get it together.. although, with all of my “what to wear” issues, maybe I am as ensemble challenged as it seems, in order to put this look together. In any event, I decided to play it safe for my first outing, with an all black outfit, sporting a cardigan, dress and black sheer stockings. I accented the look with gold tones wearing a statement necklace and matching watch. On this particular day, I was off to get work done on my laptop; hence the messenger bag, followed by grocery shopping. In the end, the stars aligned and fate saw fit to get these shoes on the road, I successfully broke in my new cherry docs and have now moved these once impossible shoes to the front line of my “go to’s.”

Ps. If you are in search for my stroke of genius, then look no further… notice, the sad face turns into a happy face! All is well in the world.
